What: Hogar, Verdad, y Vida is a shelter
located
in
Tijuana,
Mexico that seeks to provide refuge
for displaced teenage girls. This shelter
takes in
teenage girls of all ages, starting at age 12, who are pregnant or are
currently
mothers
and provides them
with a home, rehabilitation, and aide in raising their children. The women living in this shelter come from all over the country of Mexico and are prisoners of the poverty that
pervades their country. Most of the women in this shelter are victims of the sex trade, several forms of sexual and domestic abuse and have found hope in this shelter.
Hands For Latin America currently provides support to Hogar, Verdad, y Vida in several forms. Members of the Hands For Latin America community, including CEO and founder Sofía Ruiz, volunteer at this shelter to help in taking care of the children living in this shelter and provide friendship and support to both the children and their mothers.
