| Hands For Latin America was founded by 16-year-old, Sofía Ruiz, after a life-changing trip to Mexico with her family. After experiencing first hand the desperate attempts of children in Chiapas, Mexico who risked their life to make only pennies from a car wash, Sofia’s eyes opened to the severe need to STOP children from taking these desperate measures and help them get off the streets once and for all. She answered the call in her soul to make a difference by raising seed money from friends and family. Next she started a grass roots movement, first selling homemade goods at her local schoolyard in San Diego and by beading handmade bracelets. She now plans to raise $100,000 by the end of 2009 by expanding her line of products and the dedicated members of Hands For Latin America. Sofía holds a strong passion for her Latin roots so it was her desire to help others of her culture using her talent and creativity. Her desire to help extends beyond the children in Mexico; Sofía’s mission is to abolish child poverty throughout Latin America. Sofía’s vision is to create a nationally recognized organization to end child poverty around the world. |
